Saturday 20 May marks the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest days in FC Barcelona history. The day we finally won the European Cup for the first time with a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria at Wembley. The club called on fans to send us any videos that they had of that momentous occasion in London. And considering the fact that portable recording devices were nothing like as common in those days as they are now, the response was extraordinary.

Hristo Stoichkov came to Barça from CSKA Sofia in 1988 for the first of two spells at the Club, separated by a year with Italian side Parma, before his departure in 1998. The Bulgarian confesses that every 20 May he follows a ritual in honour of FC Barcelona’s first ever win in the European Cup. The Barça number 8 also recalls his excellent relationship with Johan Cruyff who he describes as playing an important role in helping win the European Footballer of the Year award.

Andoni Zubizarreta was the blaugranas’ keeper for eight seasons, starting in the 1986/7 campaign and ending his spell at Barça in 1993/4. The Basque player remembers how demanding the fans were and what Johan Cruyff asked of him. He also spoke of the succession of saves he made in the European Cup final and how much he suffered when Sampdoria were on the attack.
